HOM, Inc., manages permanent housing programs for individuals and families experiencing homelessness utilizing a scattered site, tenant-based rental assistance model. These programs provide housing assistance to approximately 2,500 households throughout Maricopa County.

Position Description

The Senior Accountant position requires an accounting professional who will oversee the financial reporting and controls for the company in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Senior Accountant works closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and other executive team members with duties directly affecting the financial stability and growth of the company. The Senior Accountant will provide leadership and guidance in the administrative, business planning, accounting and budgeting efforts for the organization. The Senior Accountant reports directly to the COO. The Senior Accountant is an exempt position with a classification of “Administrative.”

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Maintains financial records and ensures transactions are properly recorded
  • Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to general ledger
  • Prepare monthly and yearly financial reports for review with the executive team
  • Prepare schedules in support of annual audits and tax preparation as required
  • Coordinate the completion of bi-weekly payroll with Chief Programs Officer and team Supervisors
  • Assist with monthly employee benefits accounts reconciliations
  • Analyze current costs, revenues, commitments and obligations incurred to forecast future revenue, expenses, and cash requirements
  • Define, implement and document adequate and effective processes to maintain and improve the financial reporting cycle
  • Identify and implement process improvements as part of continuous quality improvement and evolution of accounting processes

Qualified candidates should possess the following essential skills:

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications including Sharepoint, OneDrive, Teams, Planner, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Proficiency with other web-based applications including, or similar to, HubDoc.com, Bill.com, or others used in the accounting process
  • Strong organizational skills with aptitude for project management and multitasking to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Demonstrated high level of skill with interpersonal relationships and communication
  • Strong sense of ownership of work processes and outcomes
  • Excellent people skills and the proven ability to work well with a wide range of personalities
  • Ability to think strategically and tactically to accomplish goals
  • Ability to manage change while working as part of a team
  • Problem solver with the ability to adapt to unexpected challenges

Education and Training

  • Understanding and commitment to “Housing First” principles in ending homelessness
  • Minimum of (5) five years’ experience as a Senior Accountant or Finance Director
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Master’s Degree Preferred
