DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Police Of?cer/Tribal Ranger is responsible to implement the enforcement of Federal, State and Tribal laws
and ordinances and the prevention of crime and protection of life and property. The Police Of?cer/Tribal Ranger
is also responsible for the enforcement of all Tribal land management ordinances governing the protection,
preservation and conservation of reservation wildlife and other tribal natural resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
o Patrol services on and off roadways throughout all seven districts within the boundaries of the Gila River
Indian Reservation and provide rescue and ?rst aid assistance as needed.
0 Perform all duties related to the protection of Gila River Indian Community Tribal lands and natural resources
by patrolling assigned geographical areas to prevent theft, destruction, trespassing of natural land resources,
as well as the prevention of illegal dumping of trash or hazardous waste materials, keeps in close contact with
Gila River Indian Community Land Use Ordinance Of?cer to ensure permits are valid and accurate.
0 Enforcement of all Tribal, State and Federal criminal and traf?c laws, including all Tribal ordinances to
investigate and act on violations, issue warning, citations, and/or make arrests and transports prisoners when
warranted, collect preserve, and transport physical evidence, handle civil matters such as trespassing.o Enforces the native plant and antiquities ordinance through consultation with Gila River Indian Community
Land Use Ordinance Of?cer.
0 Conducts investigations of reported violations of Tribal Land Ordinance covering the protection of Tribal
Natural Resources and coordinates investigative activities with the Land Use Ordinance Of?cer.
0 Writes case reports, prepares case, and testi?es in court, prepares and ?les investigative reports as well as
other related reports involving the Tribal Ranger program.
0 Communicate effectively and coherently over law enforcement radio channels while initiating and responding
to radio communications.
0 Provide information to visitors on the regulatory ordinances covering the protection and restriction of Tribal
land use and natural resources on the Gila River Indian Community.
0 Assist in the development and maintenance of related records, maps and patrol schedules.
0 Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:0 Knowledge of Federal and State statutes, codes, and ordinances to be enforced.
0 Knowledge of equipment used in law enforcement, including weapons and on board vehicle terminals.
0 Basic knowledge of the ordinances applicable to natural resources protection of the Gila River Indian
Community.
0 Ability to communicate effectively to other ethnic groups and individuals.
0 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Of?cial
and the general public.
0 Ability to understand and interpret complex Federal, State Statutes, Tribal laws and Ordinances, regulations
and when to enforce appropriately.
0 Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High School diploma or GED.Possess and maintain Arizona Peace Of?cer Standards and Training (AZPO ST) Board Certi?cation or
successfully attend and complete an authorized Police Academy as condition of employment.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be a United States citizen and at least 21 years of age, or turn 21 years of age before graduation from a
police academy.Not been found guilty of, or entered a plea of nolo contendere or guilty, to any felony offense or any two or more
misdemeanor offenses under Federal, State, or Tribal law involving crimes of violence, sexual assault,
molestation, exploitation, contact or prostitution, crimes against persons, or offenses committed against children.No convictions of a felony or any offense that would be considered a felony if committed in the State of Arizona,
including offense involving domestic violence.Pass extensive pre-employment testing: physical aptitude, written test, interview review board, polygraph,
psychological assessment, medical examination, background investigation, ?ngerprint clearance, and drug screen.Possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver License with less than three traf?c violations (civil or misdemeanor
offense) within the last 39 months as a condition of employment.Not have been dishonorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces.Not have illegally possessed or used marijuana for any purpose within the past three years.Clear Federal Regulated Adjudication 25 Code of Federal Regulation §§ 63, Executive Order (EO) 12968, the
Gun Control Act of 1968 (Pub. L. 90-618), the Crime Control Act of 1990 (Pub. L. 101-647), and the requirements
of the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, as amended (Pub. L. 101-630) - Background
clearance every ?ve (5) years.Required mandatory reporter pursuant to Title 7, Chapter 2 (7.205), B.Required to attend Title 7 Mandatory Reporting training on a yearly basis.Non- Supervisory, Hourly Position
Reports to Chief of Police or designee
