Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Program Director, this position will serve as the Student Recruitment and Retention Specialist for the ASU Chinese Language Flagship/ROTC Program: identify and develop relationships with students, teachers, administrators, staff, and students in educational settings involved with teaching and learning Chinese, locally and nationally (including K-12, community colleges, community organizations and businesses); conduct workshops and presentations for students and/or organizations providing information and guidance on the Chinese Language Flagship/ROTC program; follow-up on contacts with students and organizations through personal contact and correspondence and maintain appropriate files; counsel students regarding issues and problems related to participation in the Chinese Language Flagship/ROTC Program; refer to other sources as needed; assist in development of recruitment and promotional materials used in recruitment and outreach activities targeted at diverse student populations, such as letters, flyers, brochures, pamphlets, websites and other collateral materials; write and proofread content for recruitment materials; coordinate and organize recruitment and outreach events for prospective students; assist in coordinating retention activities for current students; assist students with admission process and additional projects as assigned; develop and maintain effective working relationships; communicate effectively in person, by telephone and/or email as appropriate for the situation; travel between university campuses, local schools, businesses and recruitment sites; travel, on occasions, to out-of-state recruitment activities.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE:
Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM (Occasional nights and weekends)
Skills / Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Education or related field AND one year of recruitment/retention, admissions or related experience; OR, five years of recruitment/retention, admissions or related experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Possession of a current Arizona Type D drivers license is required upon employment.
Desired Qualifications:
Evidence of: a Bachelor's degree in foreign languages and cultures, education, student development, counseling, business, marketing; effective verbal and written communication skills. Experience in: studying and/or living abroad; familiarity with ROTC programs; working in a higher education environment; team collaboration; Excel; databases such as Access and ASU Data Warehouse; data analysis (e.g., SPSS).

The ASU Chinese Language Flagship ROTC Pilot Program offers ROTC students who are Mandarin language learners an intensive curriculum to develop superior language skills while at the same time fulfilling requirements for the ROTC program.
