Jobing Description
TERROS is looking for temporary full time media literacy Project Manager to implement a media literacy curriculum as an afterschool project from 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM weekdays at the Granada East School 3022 West Campbell and four hours on Saturdays at a site yet to be determined. The project will run for three months starting in January 2010. Experience with middle school youth or ability to manage youth ages 12-14.

Program Goal:
To develop and promote attachment to school as a protective factor in participating youth in the Granada East School.
• Objective #1: To complete two cycles of four weeks of a media literacy curriculum by April 30, 2010.
• Objective # 2: To recruit and retain 15-20 youth in each of the media literacy cycle of four weeks.
• Objective # 3: To have 90% of participating youth complete the entire media literacy curriculum of three weeks.
• Objective # 4: To have each participating youth complete a prosocial media project individually or as a group project by the end of the three weeks cycle.
• Objective # 5: To have each participating youth develop and implement a dissemination strategy for his individual or group project.


Program Operations:
TERROS Media Literacy is was selected because of its protective factor elements in three domains; a prosocial alternative activity; enhances individual decision making based on critical thinking; and attachment to school as a protective factor.
• Site:
It will be housed at the Granada East School 3022 West Campbell and operated as an afterschool project from 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM . Saturday classes will be held in a location accessible to the participating youth.
• Referrals:
Referrals to the program will be made by the school that will confidentially identify youth who would benefit from the three protective factors or who may be at higher risk.
• Staff
TERROS will staff the project with a bachelor / masters level personnel with the appropriate requirements of fingerprinting etc and experience in working with youth and or media background.
• Hours of Operation:
The program will be operated as an afterschool program at the site located above. Saturday activities may have to be a different location that is still accessible to the neighborhood youth.
• Curriculum:
The curriculum selected is the Media Literacy for the 21st Century that is in the public domain. It is a structured nine lesions with multiple learning activities in each one. A brief summary taken from the source is described as:
“The heart of media literacy is informed inquiry.
Through a four-step ‘inquiry’ process of Awareness…Analysis… Reflection … Action, media literacy helps young people acquire an empowering set of “navigational” skills which include the ability to:
Access: information from a variety of sources.
Analyze: and explore how messages are “constructed” whether print, verbal, visual or multi-media.
Evaluate: media’s explicit and implicit messages against one’s own ethical, moral and/or democratic principles.
Express: or create their own messages using a variety of media tools.


Evaluation:
The project will utilize both process and outcome evaluations:
Process Evaluation:
Process evaluation will be measured by the number of youth attending each lesion and their level of participation. TERROS will develop a modified Session Rating Scale to be utilized in assessing the appropriateness of the activities and the level of engagements.

Outcome Evaluation:
Outcome evaluation will be measure with the completion of the individual and or group project and their dissemination implementation.

Attachment to school will be measured by self reported frequency of disciplinary and grade or class performance improvement.

Skills / Requirements
The curriculum, Media Literacy for the 21st Century is in the public domain and requires a self directed individual with initiative with good reading and writing skills.

Prefer bilingual Spanish and a Masters or Bachelor level degree with media or project management experience.

Responsibilities will include coordinating with School Principal and faculty, recruiting youth at the school, preparing lessons, implementing curriculum, some driving and transporting may be required in corporate van.

Must be able to pass finger print clearance or have current finger print card.
