RESPONSIBILITIES

Safely reads water meters and records readings and other miscellaneous information in a hand-held data collection device. Turns water meters on and off as requested while demonstrating respect for the customer and their property. Locates and reads buried, flooded and hard to access meters. Supports other staff members and acts as a team player by assisting them with job duties. Listens and communicates effectively with all those encountered in the course of work. Operates and maintains a City motor vehicle in a proper manner so as to allow better delivery of services.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED equivalent and any combination of experience and training that would likely provide knowledge and abilities.
• Candidate must have experience working in a customer service environment.
• Have basic understanding of arithmetic and calculations.
• Experience in meter reading procedures and practices.
• Experience working in an outside position with exposure to extreme weather conditions on variable terrain.
• Candidate must be able to operate “right hand” steering vehicles.
• Basic computer skills are required in addition to the ability to read and interpret aerial and street maps.
• Must have the ability to clearly communicate information verbally and in writing form.
• Ability to lift meter boxes and meter lids weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Must be flexible to working a variety of hours to meet department requirements.
• The selected candidate must have a current valid Driver's License, with no major driving citations in the past 39 months.
