RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides the “day-to-day” administration and maintenance to all Fire department application systems. Creates and writes SQL queries for custom reporting from Fire application databases. Develops and maintains custom reporting to meet staff needs, using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services. Assists with the evaluation and analysis of Fire’s processes, procedures and workflow to determine the feasibility of different technology options and solutions to meet their requirements. Performs system analysis, computer configuration, planning and plans the training of employees on Fire’s automated systems to ensure optimal performance of the systems. Assists Information Technology in the maintenance and support of the Fire’s application servers, including administration of the server equipment. Assists Information Technology in the support of Fire Panasonic laptop field computers and desktop HP computers. Resolves operational problems for Fire’s internal and external users. Works with Phoenix Fire Department to resolve issues with the dispatch of fire calls and in data flow between Cities. Assists with research, testing and evaluation of new Fire software applications and upgrades of existing applications. Tests changes to the operating system on Fire applications before upgrading departmental users. Implements the installation and upgrades to the Fire application systems. Develops procedures manual and related documentation to ensure smooth operations of Fire applications. Works with the Information Technology department to assist Fire staff with prioritization, submission and implementation of requests for service. Provides on call support to crucial Technology during off hours. Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills / Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS

• This position requires a combination of education and work experience equivalent to four years of experience in custom report writing, systems analysis, database design, Geographic Information Systems, cartographic mapping, user support, and the testing and implementation of vendor-based application systems.
• Extensive knowledge of writing SQL queries and SQL language, database design, Microsoft SQL Reporting Services, and deriving information from large databases required.
• Extensive knowledge of using ESRI GIS applications, and producing custom cartographic maps required.
• Requires experience in supporting vendor application software programs with large user base.
• Previous experience supporting computer applications and technology within a municipal Fire Department, especially PDSI Telestaff and Tiburon FireRECORDS, is considered a definite plus.
• Requires knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems and Microsoft Office applications; Microsoft Internet Explorer and other common web-based applications; PC hardware and software and commonly used hardware peripherals; field laptops; experience with projects involving the integration of PC, server and networking hardware and software; networking fundamentals; wireless hardware and standards; and safeguards and security procedures.
• Must be able to install, troubleshoot and configure software applications; listen and communicate about technology effectively with a diverse group of people (staff and management); and address concerns regarding departmental applications with vendors and central IT department.
• Must have direct experience supporting non-technical computer users.
• Must be able to describe, in detail, each of the steps needed to locate the solutions for hardware and software problems, and to arrange these steps in a logical sequence; make oral and written presentations to staff of hardware, software and system analysis considerations in a clear, concise and non-technical manner.
• Create documentation and display ability to comprehend and make inferences from written material; work in a team environment and effectively collaborate with individuals of varied computer technology expertise.
• Requires general knowledge of wireless applications, modems and field radios which are used by the Fire Department for field computing.
