Starting salary around $60k (depends on location). THESE JOBS ARE ON ACTIVE DUTY IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY AS A NAVY OFFICER.

The Navy Nuclear Power Program allows you to become an INSTRUCTOR, PLANT SUPERVISOR, OR PLANT DESIGNER. These are immediate fill positions.

Term: 4-year or 5-year contract after completion of ODS/OCS.

NUCLEAR POWER Instructors are responsible for training Future Nuclear Propulsion Officers and Nuclear Field Enlisted Personnel in mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, heat transfer and fluid flow, chemistry, radiological controls, and reactor plant engineering at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Charleston, South Carolina. You'll attend a short five-week Naval Officer orientation course (ODS) in Newport, Rhode Island; then four months of on-the-job training before becoming a NPS instructor.

NAVAL REACTORS Engineers are responsible for approving, confirming, and planning the design, operation, and maintenance of over 100 nuclear reactors while in Washington, D.C. You'll attend a short five-week Naval Officer orientation course (ODS) in Newport, RI; then will attend training at Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After completion of this training, Naval Reactors Engineers are assigned five-year positions at Naval Reactors headquarters in Washington, D.C.

NUCLEAR SUBMARINE Officers are responsible for oversight of the nuclear power plant during in-port and at sea operations, leading enlisted sailors onboard the submarine, navigating the submarine during submerged operations, and keeping the submarine safe as the Captain's representative. You'll attend a 12-week course at Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI; then begin training at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC) in Charleston, South Carolina. This 24-week course helps students understand the complex nature of nuclear propulsion through a broad background on theory and operations mechanics. Once you’ve successfully completed NNPTC, you’ll begin training at a Nuclear Power Training Unit for real-life work on an actual operating reactor for 24-weeks. Nuclear-Trained Submarine Officers then attend the Submarine Officer Basic Course, a 12-week course that will familiarize you with submarine safety and operations and all of the necessary aspects of submarine life as an Officer. Following SOBC you will report to your first submarine as for your division officer tour for approximately 30 months.

NUCLEAR SURFACE WARFARE Officers are responsible for oversight of the nuclear power plant during in-port and at sea operations, leading enlisted sailors onboard the warship, navigation and safe operation at sea, and keeping the ship safe as the Captain's representative. You'll attend a 12-week course at Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI; then you will be stationed onboard a conventional surface ship as a division officer to qualify as a surface warfare officer for approximately 21 months. After qualifying as a surface warfare officer you will attend Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC) in Charleston, South Carolina. This 24-week course helps students understand the complex nature of nuclear propulsion through a broad background on theory and operations mechanics. Once you’ve successfully completed NNPTC, you’ll begin training at a Nuclear Power Training Unit for real-life work on an actual operating reactor for 24-weeks. Following nuclear training you will be stationed onboard a nuclear aircraft carrier as a division officer in the engineering department for approximately 24 months.

Skills / Requirements
Requirements: (must live in our recruiting area of- AZ/NM, or El Paso, TX, if not, please contract your local Navy Officer recruiter where you live.)
Must be 19 to 35 years of age.
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Minimum:
- BS in: Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Math, Architectural, or related Engineering degree preferred.
- 1 yr Calculus
- 1 yr Calculus-based Physics (Calculus must be through differential and integral of one-real variable)
- Physics must cover the classic fundamentals of mechanics, magnetism, and electricity.
- "C" or better in all technical courses.
- Must be in good health with no significant medical conditions

Training:
- OCS: Officer Candidate School - Newport, RI (12 Weeks) or ODS: Officer Development School - Newport, RI (5 weeks) depending on career path selected
- NNPTC: Navy Nuclear Power Training Command - Charleston, SC (6 months)
- NNPTU: Navy Nuclear Power Training Unit - Charleston, SC or Ballston Spa, NY (6 months)

Start date: Application process approx 1 month, then ODS/OCS School
