Job Summary/Purpose:
The Mathematic Intervention Specialist is a highly qualified teacher of mathematics who works specifically with K-8 students who require strategic and intensive intervention. The focus of the intervention specialist is to develop a student centered system of intervention that effectively works to close the achievement gap in mathematics. The goal of the intervention specialist is to ensure that the students are able to master grade level standards and curriculum by instructing students not meeting state mathematics standards. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Professional Knowledge „XDemonstrates knowledge and understanding of Scientifically Based Reading Research (SBRR) and Scientifically Based Mathematics Instruction specifically related to K-8 students. „XUnderstands the purpose and components of core mathematics programs, supplemental materials, and intervention programs. „XUnderstands how to collaboratively plan with K-8 staff to effectively use and implement adopted mathematics program, supplemental materials, and intervention programs. „XUnderstands and interprets assessment data such as TerraNova, Galileo, and AIMS, as well as other informal assessment data, to guide instructional decisions and flexible student grouping. „XUnderstands how to use technology for instructional planning, i.e. creating reports, and using data to plan lessons. Instructional Practice „XUse instructional decisions that are based on data analysis „XDesign effective intervention lessons. „XContinuously monitor progress of students receiving intervention services, in order to adjust instructional practice and student grouping. „XCommunicate and collaborate with classroom teachers regarding alignment between classroom instruction and intervention. „XUse technology for planning instruction and assessment analysis „XIntegrate Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol strategies in small group instruction Professional Responsibilities „XAttend district and school site sponsored trainings „XTrain paraprofessionals in effective instructional practice and the components of the intervention program. „XSupport the site level School Wide Plan through facilitation and/or participation at in-services, grade level team meetings, and staff meetings. „XCollaborate with classroom teachers, coaches, and contracted consultants. „XPrepare monthly progress report(s). „XPerforms other duties as assigned. Requirements:
The successful candidate will have: „XBachelor¡¦s Degree in Education, Master¡¦s Degree preferred „XArizona Teaching Certificate „XHigh Qualified in Mathematics (24 credit hours, Mathematics degree or passed the Middle Grades or High School Mathematics AEPA) „XExperience teaching K-8 students in mathematics (three to five years of experience preferred) „XExperience working with individual teachers and site based teams „XExperience and training in administering assessments and analyzing data to drive instruction „XProven track record of instructing diverse learners, including English Language Learners and Special Education students, in the area of mathematics Important Notes
