Jobing Description
NOTE: This is a M-F, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. position; occasional weekend and evening presentations may be required.

STATEMENT OF WORK:
This position is the primary interface between the FSL Training Center and the Arizona Energy Office and is responsible for the overall planning, development and implementation of the Arizona energy training and technical assistance initiatives to include Weatherization specific trainings, building science and efficiency trainings and Building Performance Institute certifications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prescribed:
• Assess, design and modify energy related building science curriculum and lead safe weatherization techniques to include both class room and hands on field sessions.
• Prepare course curriculums, handouts and manuals, power point presentations, and pre/post testing documents to be used by the training center.
• Serve as a lead trainer for the training center.
• Performs energy audits, inspections and assessments using diagnostic equipment like the Blower Door, CO Analyzer, Infrared Camera and REM Design in order to demonstrate its uses to training candidates.
• Review, understand and incorporate DOE, LIHEAP, DSM and Energy Code components as needed into the various training sessions.
• Proctor BPI certification exams following BPI proctor guidelines.
• Establish a mechanism or a database to track training and attendee information.
• Work closely with FSL web designer to maintain accurate training information and calendar of training events.
• Work with staff of BPI and the Arizona Energy Office to ensure quality based training.
• Evaluate effectiveness of trainings, analyze results and report out as requested.
• May be required to function as a subject matter expert on training and technical assistance issues and to prepare formal presentations and outreach efforts at conferences and events related to energy as well as to various community leaders, associations and commissions.
• Develop and maintain working relationship with the weatherization network.
• Encourage cooperation and joint planning for training and technical assistance with the state agencies, local jurisdictions and community organizations for the advancement of Arizona's weatherization and energy programs.
• Required to work from time to time in the field with technicians to learn, adapt, and modify training techniques.
• Perform marketing and outreach duties to increase knowledge and awareness of energy training in Arizona.
• Work closely with building contractors and other entities interested in the weatherization or energy field to promote the industry and increase contractor base.
• May be required to travel to worksites and locations in rural communities throughout Arizona to provide onsite training and technical assistance to weatherization technicians.
• Coordinate the building of individual training laboratory components and mock house lab.
• May be required to perform other energy related duties as assigned to FSL by the Arizona Energy Office.

Varied:
• Maintains a positive team environment.
• Ability to troubleshoot with technicians and to research solutions as required.
• May be asked to participate in panel discussions and other committees to advance training and technical assistance of the weatherization program.

Skills / Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Minimum required:
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must have excellent computer skills and ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other software as needed to perform duties mentioned in this job description.
• Must have an in-depth understanding of energy related issues, building science concepts and weatherization.
• General knowledge of residential and/or commercial building construction, HVAC, or energy conservation techniques.
• Candidate must hold a BPI Building Analyst certification or must obtain certification within 90 days of date of hire.
• Must become a BPI training proctor within six (6) months from date of hire.

Preferred:
• RESNET Energy Rater Certification, Lead Assessor/Inspector Certification, Carbon Monoxide Analyst or other energy related certifications.
• Demonstrate knowledge of US Department of Energy 10CFR Part 440 Weatherization Assistance Program and the US Health and Human Services Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the local DSM utility programs.


WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Minimum required:
• Bachelor degree or 3-5 years experience working in energy efficiency or building science industry.
• General knowledge of residential and/or commercial construction, HVAC or home repair/retrofits.
• Ability to perform mathematical analysis to determine cost effectiveness of energy related repairs.

Preferred:
• Five to seven years of experience in the Residential Weatherization or Energy Field.
• Bachelor's Degree.

• Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the candidate to work in and out of the office. Must be able to use a computer and other technology related to energy diagnostics; some travel is required; the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen; the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms; the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may be required to climb ladders, manuever under mobile homes or in attics and perform field technician duties in order to demonstrate these techniques as part of training;. This work may require irregular work hours to accommodate training sessions. In addition, working outside may occur under inclement weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
