Experience IWS Culture: Click Here Lead Mechanical Engineer Job Summary: The Lead Mechanical Engineer will lead projects of significant complexity and scope involving gun systems and related components. The position requires broad experience guiding a team of engineers in developing products that contain mechanical and electromechanical devices and subsystems. In addition, this position requires a person that exhibits a high degree of leadership and technical competency, organization, and versatility. The position requires the ability to motivate others and the ability to work and communicate with others at all levels within the organization. Job Responsibilities: Coordinate and direct the activities of team by developing technical solutions to complex design problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Guide the successful completion of major design efforts by ensuring technical objectives are met. Lead a team of design engineers in the development, documentation, and maintenance of designs, processes, methods, and tools to resolve programmatic and technical problems. Represent the engineering organization as a prime technical contact on new projects and proposals. Document, follow, own, and improve the organizations design engineering processes. This role also calls for defining and capturing design engineering metrics. Plan and implement the component verification program to ensure the device, as designed and built, will meet the specified requirements. Write standards and develop design solutions to aid manufacturing processes, assist with resolving supplier problems that affect cost, delivery, or performance, and participate on Integrated Product Teams (IPT). Primary Responsibilities: Specific responsibilities include leading a group of engineers in the design of mechanical and electromechanical components, integration of product designs and systems into military platforms, developing prototype hardware, conducting engineering tests, and preparing technical documentation. Responsible for overseeing trade studies, designs and/or drawings utilizing computer-aided design equipment, reviewing calculations, and coordinating design criteria with other engineering disciplines, manufacturing, tooling, and planning material groups. Assign design personnel to specific aspects or phases of project. Research and analyze data, such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. Participate in the development and fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems. Implement design modifications to eliminate component or system malfunctions. Analyze product design data to determine conformance to established design selection criteria, use of standardized parts and equipment, and design-to-cost ratio. Recommend modifications based on producibility, cost, and component technology factors. Coordinate testing of new parts and equipment, evaluate test results, and approve or reject usage of parts and equipment based on test results. Evaluate initial selection of vendors. Develop methods and programs to predict, track, and report design status during design development. Review and evaluate product requests from customers. Evaluate product design for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, quality standards, and specifications. Evaluate and approve design changes and drawing releases. Job Requirements: Bachelor of Science in engineering (MS Preferred) with a minimum of 10 years experience in aerospace, defense, or related industries. Must have experience in mechanical design, integration, and test of mechanical or electrical components and systems. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of engineering principles, theories, and techniques associated with large aerospace or DOD projects. Must be action oriented, independent and self-motivated. Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational and teamwork skills. Proven ability to build a motivated, high performing design team. Ability to affectively resolve conflicts. Demonstrated experience developing project plans and budget submissions. Ability to assess staffing needs, monitor workload, and work allocation. Setting priorities for team, developing metrics and monitoring performance of staff Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and provide staff motivation relating to problematic technical concerns. Must be proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and MS Project.
