Instrument Maker/Designer
Arizona State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Job Id# 23324 Duties and Responsibilities: - Design fixtures, experimental parts, and instrumentation using CAD software to meet specialized needs of research projects. - Machine 2-4 axis milling machines and lathes using CAM software. - Maintain and repair of all machine shop tooling, instrumentation and machine tools. - Assist researchers in development of conceptual designs for both prototype parts and support instrumentation. - Offer alternate more cost effective approaches to incomplete or questionable designs. - The ability to move paper design into 3D CAD designs. - Experienced in G-Code programming. DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 7:00AM-3:30PM Skills / Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Ten years of experience in the fabrication, modification, and repair of mechanical instruments and assemblies using manual or CNC machine shop equipment; OR, Completion of a two year tool technology program AND eight years of experience related to the fabrication and repair of mechanical devices and instrument assemblies, which includes two years of component design, two years of CNC machine programming and G code editing, and one year of CadCam programming for downloading to CNC machining operations; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Desired Qualifications: 15 to 20 years in one of the following fields of manufacturing: - Tool and Die maker - Mold Maker - Jig, Fixture and Gage Maker - Model Maker - CAD Software - 3D CAD Designs - G Code Programming - Pro Engineer and Solid works Demonstrated experience working with: Graduate student projects for research designs and manufacture; Demonstrated knowledge and experience with: exotic material machining; extensive understanding of mechanical devices. Demonstrated knowledge of CNC programming using FeatureCam or SurfCam. The Research Technical Services Machine shop provides services to all departments at Arizona State University.
