Job: Recreation Therapist - BioBehavioral Department

Schedule: Full-time

Phoenix Children's Hospital is the only specialty children's hospital in Arizona and it is poised to become one of the foremost pediatric hospitals in the nation. The hospital is home to the state's largest group of pediatric specialists and sub-specialists. In addition, the hospital continues to evolve its clinical practices and is working with leading local and national research partners to uncover new breakthroughs in pediatric medicine.

Currently a 299 bed facility, new construction plans were unveiled in October 2006 that include the building of two new patient bed towers and expansion in bed capacity and other key programs and services over the course of the next several years. Primary Purpose:


Plans, coordinates, and supervises therapeutic activities of recreation programs to meet the emotional, social, and physical health of pediatric patients and their families consistent with established treatment objectives.

Work Environment:


Activities are primarily performed in an environmentally controlled hospital office setting subject to daily exposure to patients and families; frequent standing, reaching, lifting, bending and climbing; manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 60 pounds. May, if qualified, operate a motor vehicle to travel within local area. Must communicate clearly in English. Requires the ability to speak, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties of the job. Effective and positive human relations skills are required, including confidentiality, in order to appropriately interface with all levels of Phoenix Children's Hospital staff, physicians, patients, their families and other contacts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Current certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Therapist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation, or Bachelor's degree in Recreation and Therapeutic Recreation Therapist certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation within six (6) months of hire.
2. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association,
3. Current First Aid certification,
4. Current Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card.
5. Minimum of age twenty-one (21).


*must be willing to work weekends
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current membership Arizona State Therapeutic Recreation Association.
2. Current State of Arizona Driver's license.
