AGENCY INFORMATION:
A New Leaf began as a result of community efforts to address the escalating drug problems within Mesa Public Schools. In early 1971, Mesa Public Schools hired Dorothy Mitchell as a full-time Drug Abuse Consultant. Her responsibilities included involving the entire community in a drug-counseling program. By March 1971, Dorothy, Larry Simmons, and fifteen concerned citizens formed a service organization for the PREvention of drug use and the reHABilitation of drug abusers. PREHAB of Mesa, was established as a nonprofit 501(c)3 in April 1971. In 2007 we changed to A New Leaf; the concepts of “growth, change and a new start” are words that our clients consistently use to describe our various services and the name change to A New Leaf presents our services in a manner more descriptive than PREHAB.
