What is ACT?
ACT is an acronym for Assertive Community Treatment. It is an evidenced based practice delivering comprehensive community-based treatment to persons with serious mental illness. It includes multi-disciplinary, 24 hour staffing availability in the community and provides intensive treatment, rehabilitation and support services to people in their homes, in social settings and at their jobs.

What is the difference between a Peer Support Specialist and the other Case Manager positions? The Peer Support Specialist acts as a Case Manager on the ACT team and is the identified lead consumer advocate and mentor on the multi-disciplinary team whose expertise lies in mentorship, advocacy, and education. To be consider for the ACT Peer Support Specialist, the applicant must be receiving or have received public behavioral health services.


Primary Functions:
  • Provides direct treatment, rehabilitative and supportive services in a community setting to consumers.
  • Works as a team member of a clinical team to assess consumer needs and wants, participates in the development of individual service plans, acts as a consumer advocate and liaisons with families and community agencies.
  • Provides on-call crisis intervention services, as well as weekend and holiday coverage.
  • Serves as the team¡¦s lead consumer advocate and mentor.
  • Is a self-disclosed mental health consumer and is willing to provide a consumer's perspective of the team's service provision.
  • Good communication skills evidenced by a non-judgmental approach, effective listening, and positive interactions

  • Skills / Requirements
    To be considered one of the following combinations of education, license and/or behavioral health work experience is required:
  • Bachelors Degree; Associates Degree; High School Diploma; or GED (Must have completed or be scheduled to complete the Peer education program at either Triple R or META).
    Bachelors Degree in behavioral health or related field and no relevant experience; Bachelors Degree in a non-behavioral process
  • Bachelors Degree in behavioral health requires one year work experience in the behavioral health field;
  • Associates Degree requires two years experience in the behavioral health field;
  • High School Diploma/GED requires four years experience in the behavioral health field.

  • Must be receiving or have received public behavioral health services.
