Jobing Description
JOB FUNCTION:
Responsible for supervising and participating in all retail functions of Hopes/Closet. Maintains excellent customer service and is accountable for meeting sales objectives through maintaining visual standards, merchandising, inventory, expense control, human resources management and managing operating costs. Balances profitability with the consistent provision of donated resources to New Life Center and its residents.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Retail Responsibilities
1. Meet or exceed established sales goals.
2. Maintain the assets of Hope's Closet. (Real property, vehicles, fixtures, merchandise).
3. Participates and supervises the maintenance of visual standards and cleanliness.
4. Control operation expenses.
5. Formulate pricing policies on merchandise according to requirements for profitability of retail operations.
6. Participates and supervises in providing outstanding customer service.
7. Works with NLC administrative board to ensure donated goods and merchandise donation objectives are met, including needs for residents who are leaving NLC and are in need of household goods.
8. Maintain and develop cooperative working relationships with NLC staff and volunteers to enhance coordination of services to NLC and its residents.
9. Maintain records of daily deposits and daily reports of sales for submission to NLC Financial Director.
10. Maintain petty cash records, employee time sheets, employee files, and expenses related to store operations and transportation for examination by auditors and NLC funding agencies.
11. Develop and oversee the processes to track inventory as received, sold or disposed of.
12. Maintain security systems to provide store security and safety.
13. Maintain store appearance to positively reflect the mission and values of New Life Center.
14. Coordinate transportation operation for the pick up of furniture and other large donations.
15. Participate and supervise the sorting in the back room to insure merchandise is moved to the floor in a timely manner for easy and prompt access to merchandise by customers.
16. Dispose of or sell in bulk unwanted, non-saleable items according to current rules and regulations regarding the disposal of non-profit merchandise.

Employee/Volunteer Supervision
1. Provide input to the NLC Administrative Management Team to write, revise and maintain job descriptions, policies and procedures.
2. Make recommendation on recruiting and hiring store employees; create work schedules; and provide direct supervision.
3. Train staff and volunteers in store policies and procedures to become a motivated sales force and to provide high quality service to customers, donors, New Life Center residents, and others.
4. Conduct regular meetings with entire staff and one-on-one supervision to ensure high quality performance.
5. Work with NLC Operations director to conduct performance evaluations of employees and take documented disciplinary actions as needed.
6. Evaluate practices and procedures throughout the facility to promote safety and security in all areas. Train each employee and ensure compliance with all safety and security measures.
7. Meet regularly with the Operations Director.

Other
1. Helps build cooperative relationships with all staff and volunteers.
2. Attend staff and Directors' meetings as scheduled.
3. Keep current on issues of domestic violence and seek appropriate training opportunities for self and staff.
4. Follow all agency procedures and contribute to the safe and therapeutic milieu of New Life Center.
5. Support and adhere to all policies regarding resident and program confidentiality.
6. Perform other duties as directed by the Operations Director or Executive Director.

Skills / Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. 5 years experience in retail supervision or management.
2. Post secondary education or commensurate experience.
3. Be bondable by fidelity.
4. Obtain fingerprint clearance.
5. Must be at least 21 years old.
6. Valid Arizona drivers license.
7. CPR/1st Aid Certified.
8. Negative TB test required.
9. Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required.

  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communications skills. Good presentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through skills.
  • Enthusiasm and positive attitude towards all people and openness to new ideas.
  • Proficient with computers, especially Microsoft Outlook and Word (10 finger typing, 30+ words per minute).
