SUMMARY: The Family Support Specialist is responsible for providing home-based prevention services focusing on child development education and coordination of services/activities for overburdened families of children prenatal to 5 years of age. This position reports directly to the Program Director.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Conducts home visits to assess family needs and provide case management services when necessary, while promoting self-sufficiency. * Utilizes child development curriculum with each family and promote positive parent-child relationships. * Utilizes appropriate limit setting and boundaries. * Acts as a positive role model. * Maintains necessary assessments and documentation in accordance with agency and funding source requirements. * Participates in and comes prepared for weekly supervision with Program Director. * Coordinates with other community services. * Attends and participates in all scheduled Building Bright Futures/ First Things First conferences, seminars, in-service training and parent events. * Maintains all Building Bright Futures quality assurance standards, ie. Home visitation rate. * Performs other related duties as required. SPECIAL ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND Requirements * Ability to interact effectively with families while fostering their self-sufficiency. * Knowledge of child development. * Flexibility in scheduling (able to work limited nights and weekends). * Ability to work effectively within a team. * Extensive knowledge of community resources. * Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. * Demonstrates effective problem solving skills. Skills / Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Associates degree in early childhood, psychology, counseling, social work, or related behavioral health field, plus two years of related experience; or a high school degree plus five years of related experience. * Experience working with diverse populations. * Must have own vehicle, a current Arizona Driver’s License and automobile liability insurance. * Bilingual required.
