Job: Software Engineer

Responsible for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of Business Intelligence applications for Cox Arizona which follow the systems development life cycle (SDLC) and includes Cox development standards and best practices.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Collaborates with Business Analyst group to analyze detail customer requirements and to design solutions to accomplish the customer requirements.
Manages design sessions to identify business entities, technical architecture using UML and entity diagrams and confers with team leader(s) and BI project manager to resolve questions of program intent, data input, output requirements, and inclusion of internal checks and controls for each project.
Delivers quality software by possessing a working knowledge of modular programming techniques for construction, testing and implementation of assigned tasks.
Contributes to project plans for the design, test, and implementation phases and compiles and writes documentation of program development, technical design documentation, and subsequent revisions ongoing.
Ensures code has minimal errors by developing and executing comprehensive unit test plan of any modified or new code as well as ensuring code is reviewed by another team member for accuracy, efficiency and coding standard guidelines.
Conducts operational reviews to identify and define opportunities for improved applications of systems, services and processes. Designs data, systems and process models. Interfaces with the Business Analysts to conduct business analysis and write functional and technical design specifications. Evaluates and modifies existing programs/systems as directed by business requirements. Writes new code for database access, modifications and reporting.
Produces software that delivers requested functionality by following the Cox System Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
Assists in the development of technical processes and procedures and creates accurate technical documentation.
Evaluates and recommends software and hardware to meet specific business requirements.
Corrects program errors, application bugs, using methods such as modifying programs or altering sequence of program steps.
Analyzes, reviews, and rewrites programs in approved technologies to increase operating efficiency or to adapt program to meet new requirements.
Completes projects and code assignments within specified timeframes utilizing project and time management techniques independently or as a member of a development team.
Contributes to the application, security, and group development standards.
Creates, modifies, and manages installation/maintenance guides, where applicable.
Creates weekly status reports of assigned project status, system events and evaluations to the Team Leader.
Develops small to medium size applications in a JBOSS SEAM environment.
Assists in the development of JAVA development standards.
Designs and develops reporting solutions as needed.
Provides technical support for applications while in production.
Escalates any issues to Project Manager or Technical Team Lead as necessary.
Follows defined Business Intelligence internal processes.
Stays in tune with software development industry direction for new and emerging technologies by conducting independent research and attending training sessions.
Performs other duties as required.

Education: BA/BS in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related field or equivalent experience.
Experience: 2-5 years directly related work experience in data system implementation and troubleshooting. Experience and thorough understanding of relational database design both at the architectural and component level. Experience with UML and Object Relational Mapping (JPA with Hibernate), and J2EE with EJB3.0. Experience setting up J2EE application servers, preferably JBoss 5.x. Experience with RichFaces, JSF, AJAX, and other Web 2.0 technologies. Experience with Maven and writing build scripts.

QUALIFICATIONS - DESIRED
Other: Working knowledge in C#.Net. Experience working with open source software like Apache HTTP and Tomcat. Experience with Data Warehousing projects. Experience using Reporting Services. Experience with development of Windows platform. Knowledge of the .NET Framework. Knowledge of Internet Information Server. Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
