Job Description: The ELAS Coordinator collaborates with the ELAS Director to ensure that the Arizona charter schools (over 20) throughout Arizona are in compliance. The ELAS Coordinator supports school-based ELA Coordinators in assessing and monitoring English Learners’ language proficiency skills; coordinating to support identification, placement and monitoring of English Learners; collaborating and communicating about compliance, placement and assessment issues; maintaining all English Learner records in compliance. The ELAS coordinator provides reports on the SEI program identification, placement and assessment of ELLs on each campus. Responsibilities: Assists in carrying out all regulatory responsibilities required for maintaining compliance with Federal and State regulations and orders of the Court Collaborates, assists and directs the work of the English Language Acquisition Services In collaboration with the ELAS Director, evaluates the performances of English Language Acquisition Services Coordinator to the department (going to schools in person and travel is frequently required) Supports the implementation and coordination of AZELLA testing and distribution of assessment materials for the school's Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) programs Ensures the maintenance of timely and accurate student records Maintains responsive lines of communication among ELA Coordinators throughout all Arizona schools Assists in the maintenance and implementation of the school’s SEI program compliance Collaborates with other departments and service providers within the school to ensure the appropriate placement of all English Language Leaner students in adherence to the SEI Models as outlined by ADE Assists in planning the implementation and training of AZELLA testing for all 22 schools Assists in the maintenance of SEI programs and monitors their effectiveness in terms of quality of compliance with Federal and State regulations and orders of the Court Creates and provides weekly reports using the SchoolMaster data base Trains ELA Coordinators (legislation, procedures, SAIS, Schoolmaster, and state reports) to ensure compliance at every school Communicates with the ADE to ensure procedures for serving ELLs are up to date and accurate Frequently aids site-based ELA team with updating compliance by pulling 70 Reports, generating Pearson student reports, updating SchoolMaster, and running integrity (71) reports to correct failed integrity Attends ADE trainings and PELL meetings as necessary to collect information and disseminate back to site-based ELA Coordinators/Facilitators Prepares and presents compliance information, updates, and initiatives at ELAS Department meetings Creates and updates Accountability Census for ELA Coordinators/Facilitators, and is responsible to collect, analyze, and provide feedback regarding various sections to ELA teams as census is due monthly Attends and helps to prepare and facilitate Professional Development days Performs other duties as requested by the Director of ELAS and Vice President of Academic Support Skills / Requirements
In depth understanding of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, Publisher). Excellent communication skills, organization skills and able to meet deadlines. Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators and parents. A belief that all students can reach proficiency and in maintaining a high bar for all of our students. Understands the Arizona requirements and legislation for the SEI program models.
Qualifications Preferred: Knowledge of SchoolMaster, AZELLA, ELL/ELD knowledge and experience Important Notes
