Jobing Description
Do friends treasure your tweets, envy your witty Facebook updates, hang on every word of your blog, frame your holiday card greetings and ask you to write their business plan for the “totally awesome smoothie store” they want to open (despite your gentle advice that it may not be the best time to start a new business, and reminding them of their unsuccessful attempts at selling those funky crocheted hats and those “enhanced brownies”)? Then chances are you’re known for your creative, smart and concise writing. Those are the precise qualities we’re looking for in our newly created role, Employee Communications Intern. This internship allows you to work from home, is paid, and will require approximately 20 hours a week during the fall term.

In addition to ability to grab readers’ attention, you’ll also need strong journalistic writing skills, a sincere interest in business with the ability to grasp and interpret business concepts for the everyday reader, broad knowledge of popular culture and, of course - a passion for music - of all kinds. Since you will be remote, the ability to quickly digest information and to work independently is critical.

You’ll be writing employee-focused business communications materials, including educational and entertaining news stories for employees about company strategy and key projects across all departments (R&D, customer service, sales, finance, manufacturing, etc.), creating simple images and banners for use on our intranet and creating a weekly e-newsletter. You’ll learn about employee communication, journalism, marketing, advertising, and public relations to help you prepare for a career as a creative business communicator.

Skills / Requirements
Some additional fine print requirements in addition to excellent writing skills:

Candidate must be a junior or senior undergraduate student in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or similar program at an accredited learning institution and enrolled as a full-time student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or above.

- Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

- Must be highly proficient in Adobe Photoshop and PDF Writer

- Must have excellent proofreading skills and attention-to-detail

- Must have a sense of humor

- Experience in Adobe Illustrator helpful but not required

- Ability to write fluently in Spanish also a plus but not required

- Candidates with experience in audio and video production and editing will use these skills, although they are not required for this position
