Jobing Description
Summary:
Directs medical staff assigned to the Nursing Department; acts as liaison between the medical / nursing staff and administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Directs operation of Nursing Department and staff.
2. Writes Nursing Program objectives, policies and procedures.
3. Interprets and administers the Arizona Nurse Practice Act.
4. Coordinates Nursing coverage for clinic sites.
5. May provide direct member care.
6. Makes site visits to determine quality of nursing care.
7. Evaluates staff.
8. Prepares or assists in preparation of Nursing Budget.
9. Intervenes in crisis situations and investigates all unusual incidents.
10. Assures optimal quality of care is provided in an ethical and safe environment.
12. Compiles data and prepares periodic nursing reports.
13. Maintains contacts with individuals both within and outside department who might impact on program activities.

Required Competencies:
1. Effectively supervises and councils nursing personnel and other staff in a clinic treatment setting.
2. Demonstrates knowledge of ability to apply management principles and techniques.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of Nursing administration, interviewing, and counseling techniques.
4. Demonstrates knowledge of Nursing principles and practices and Nursing in a Behavioral Health setting.
5. Effectively uses knowledge of supervised and boarding home settings.
6. Identifies and appropriately utilizes structure of services for members and their families in the community setting.
7. Demonstrates knowledge of clinical therapeutic models with emphasis on interdisciplinary team approaches.
8. Effectively uses knowledge of a wide range of professional and advanced nursing theories, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of behavioral health adults.
9. Demonstrates knowledge of psychiatric and addictions nursing practice that employs theories of the biological, behavioral, and social sciences.
10. Possesses knowledge of nursing actions that are directed toward prevention of and intervention with health problems concurrent with and consequent to patterns of abuse and addiction.
11. Understands interdisciplinary nature of psychiatric and addictions nursing , and effectively supervises/ instructs nurses in planning and implementing actions in collaboration with professionals in social work, medicine, psychology, and other fields to prevent addictions and psychiatric relapse and to intervene with existing problems.
12. Utilizes professional knowledge of education and training theory, principles, practices, and techniques, in order to assess education training needs, develop and implement education training programs and evaluate their effectiveness.

Skills / Requirements
Education/Experience: A combination of one of the following education and work experience are required:
1. MS in Psychiatric Nursing or BSN with Psychiatric Nursing Certification
2. 5 years experience in Psychiatric Nursing, two of which were in a managerial or supervisory capacity.

Certifications:
1. Registered Nurse, licensed with the Arizona Board of Nursing

Other:
1. Extensive knowledge of community resources.
2. Extensive knowledge of behavioral health challenges which include knowledge of the impacts of mental illness, domestic violence, and the dynamics of addictive behavior.
3. Familiarity with various ethnic and cultural groups.
4. Must provide own transportation, a current Arizona Driver's License and automobile liability insurance

Skills:
1. Demonstrates clinical competency in accordance with standards for the position.
2. Demonstrates competencies in accordance with CODAC standards and metrics.
3. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
4. Ability to interact effectively with other service providers.
4. Intermediate to advanced computer skills using MS Office products, Word, Excel, Access, etc., importing/exporting data to/from applications.
