Job: Assistant Risk Manager

Jobing Description
Manage and administer all tort and litigation claims with the Self-Insured Trust Fund to ensure adherence to all statutes including the Fair Claims Practices Act and Arizona Labor Code for Workers' Compensation claims. Plan the continued development and refinement of the Countywide claims management program; recommend policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable standards and law. Manage and perform required investigations to assess statutory liabilities and negotiate dispositions to ensure fiscal responsibilities to the Self-Insured. Continually improve and maintain close liaison with all County districts and departments, third party administrator, outside counsels, contractors and vendors to efficiently and cost effectively manage the County claims program, including safety and loss control measures of reduce risk to persons and property. Continually identify and evaluate the County's operations for exposure to loss and potential risk. Recommend, implement and monitor procedures and methods to eliminate, reduce or transfer potential losses and risks. Continually improve and maintain claims and risk management knowledge through education, claims associations, memberships, seminars and related activities to ensure awareness of current laws, innovative claims techniques and state of the art claims management. Daily oversight and management of the claims database to ensure accurate information is maintained and provided to internal divisions of Risk Management, County districts and departments, the public and other agencies.

Skills / Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, Risk Management, Pre-Law or a related field, and eight years of experience in risk management, or claims management. Education or job-related experience may substitute on a year for year basis. Preference may be given to candidates with a JD degree and/or litigation experience. Candidates with knowledge of claims management software (especially Risk Master and Access) and database management also preferred. Risk Manager (AZ); Associate Risk Manager (ARM), Associate in Claims (AIC), Insurance Administrator (AZ) certifications/licenses is preferred. Specialized training in risk management programs, risk assessment or claims management also preferred.
