SUMMARY: The Facilities Maintenance Instructor will provide apprentice related instruction and teach a minimum of 18 credit hours per year, plan, develop, and administer a program to train students in the facilities maintenance trade of an approved apprenticeship program so that they can acquire journeyperson status in their respective trade. The incumbent will support the goals and mission of the College.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The education and experience requirements listed below are representative of this position‚s requirements.
* Valid Arizona Driver‚s license with no DUI‚s or major traffic offenses within the past three years.
* Must successfully pass a background check and a fingerprint clearance.
* Must undergo a physical examination prior to hire.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)
* Provides apprentice related instruction and teach a minimum of 18 credit hours per year as assigned by the Department Chair of Occupational Programs, with the concurrence of the Vice President of Education and the President. Post and hold office hours of at least five (5) hours per week. Provide advising duties to students as assigned. Assist in the recruitment, retention and success of students.
* Organizes program of practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in trade, and lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology. Recommends or suggests changes for the improvement of the training program.
* Instructs students in subject areas such as tool and equipment maintenance, codes and regulations and safety precautions related to facilities maintenance. Maintains inventory and equipment records. Writes training program, including outline, handouts and tests.
* Plans and supervises work of students, individually or in small groups and in shop. Observes trainees and answers trainees‚ questions. Assures that all students abide by the guidelines, policies and procedures as set by the TOCC staff.
* Maintains attendance records. Tests and evaluates achievement of student in technical knowledge and trade skills. Writes performance reports to evaluate trainees‚ performance. Places students in job training.
* Maintains an updated list of all apprentices enrolled under their supervision. Maintains a log of student progress in hours and in skills required by the facilities maintenance program. Makes recommendations to upgrade students at appropriate intervals in his/her respective program.
* Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to obtain information useful to training facility and integrates information into training program. Confers with management to determine training objectives.
* Maintains a daily log of activities, classroom instruction and progress of projects. Schedules, and updates a list of projects to be completed.
* Reports any accidents, injuries and negligence to the immediate supervisor or the human resources representative. Maintains good strong work ethics in preparing students for employment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: TOCC is a tribal college located on the Tohono O‚odham Nation, 60 miles west of Tucson. The incumbent will work closely with members of the Tohono O‚odham Nation within a multi-cultural setting.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Skills / Requirements
COMPENTENCY (To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies):
* Knowledge of training theory and its practical application. Knowledge of building codes or office training and certification requirements. Skilled in communications, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with college administrators, faculty, staff and students.
* Skilled in prioritizing and assigning work. Preparing reports, adapting instruction to meet individual needs, speaking in public, instructing adult learners, implementing course material, and maintaining cohesive multi-level group dynamics.
* Ability to design and develop curriculum and lesson plans. Provide academic advising, consult with students regarding academic success, evaluate student performance, build community relations, incorporate a variety of teaching methodologies, and serve as a member of the department and on College committees.
* Establish and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds. Ability to integrate the values of diversity and team building into educational decision-making.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Licensure or certification in the appropriate discipline or an Associates Degree and/or five (5) years of specialized experience.
Or a Bachelor‚s degree with subject matter of the vocational discipline or related field with three (3) years work experience in the field to be taught.
Must be certified or eligible for a Community College Teaching Certificate.
ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATION MAY BE GIVEN TO INDIVIDUALS WITH THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
One year experience in teaching adults.
Ability to speak and understand O‚odham and/or Spanish.
Knowledge and understanding the history and contemporary issues facing Tribal communities.
One year experience working with Native American communities.
