Welcome to the Dysart Unified School District. We are part of an exciting, vibrant and growing community. As part of the strong foundation of our great community, the Dysart Unified School District is dedicated to serving the needs of all children with high quality educational services, before- and after-school programs, community education classes, and services for the entire community.

Dysart is the fastest growing school system in Arizona. Since 2000, the district has more than tripled in size. Despite the unprecedented growth, we are focused on preparing our students to thrive in the new century.

 

Location / Population

  • 140 square miles, serving part of El Mirage, Glendale, Surprise, Youngtown and Maricopa County in the Northwest Valley.
  • Boundaries: Glendale Avenue north to Jomax Road, 115th Avenue west to Airport Road (White Tank Mountains).
  • Educating 23,000+ students.
  • 10-year analysis shows Dysart is fastest growing school system in Arizona.

Campus Facilities

  • 20 elementary schools, 1 alternative program campus and 4 comprehensive high schools.
  • Since 2000, 15 elementary schools and 3 high schools have been built with state and local support.

Academics

  • 4 schools rated as "Highly Performing" and 9 schools rated as “Performing Plus” by the Arizona Department of Education.
  • All schools completing comprehensive continuous improvement plans.
  • Advanced placement, career and technical education, International Baccalaureate, gifted and special education programs provided.
  • Elementary schools include grades K-8; full-day kindergarten available for all students.

Finances

  • Total General Fund: $114.8 million.
  • Primary tax rate of $ 4.50, secondary tax rate of $ 1.65 (Bonds, M&O Override, K-3 Override and Capital Override). Total tax rate of $6.15, a twenty cent reduction from the previous year.
  • Recipient of more than $8 million in competitive and discretionary state and federal grants.
  • According to Auditor General, lower-than-average plant-operation costs.
  • The average teacher salary has increased by almost $5,500 in since FY2003, or a 15% increase in the average teacher salary in the last 4 four years.
  • Outsourcing of custodial and food service operations, under close district supervision.
  • FY 07-08 Adopted Budget Breakdown: Classroom Instruction 60.26%, Facilities Operations 11.28%, Instructional & Student Support 10.44%, District Administration 4.75%, Transportation 6.3% and School Administration 6.97%
