Blog Post: AARP Foundation Launches New Workforce Program
posted Monday, February 11, 2008 4:18 PM
Providing opportunities to those at risk is the core of what the AARP Foundation does everyday. Millions of older workers want and need to continue to work to ensure their current and future financial security. Through its workforce programs, AARP Foundation stands ready to support adult workers 40+ by providing access to training that will allow them to remain competitive in the job market, and by providing connections to companies who value their experience. In 2007, AARP Foundation expanded its focus on helping adult workers receive the direct services they need by launching the WorkSearch program.
AARP Foundation’s WorkSearch provides job and career information, training and related employment services to individuals who are seeking to remain in, or re-enter the workforce. The program provides a variety of services, including web based interest and ability inventories, skills assessments, information about the community job market, and connections to both on-line and community based training. The program also provides links to employers with jobs in demand. "There are really no other systems like this that take adult job seekers through the entire job search process: from skills assessments through training to connections to community employers with actual jobs," said Jim Seith, National Director of AARP Foundation's WorkSearch programs. AARP Foundation has established a number of WorkSearch sites across the country to meet the needs of adult and mid-career workers and hopes to establish more sites through collaborations with community partners. This expansion of services will help the AARP Foundation reach more job seekers like Aleta Hernandez. “By being part of the AARP Foundation WorkSearch program, I’m realizing that I do have skills and talents. So it is opening up a many possibilities,” said Ms. Hernandez about her experience with the WorkSearch program. If you are an adult worker (40+) who needs a job or wants to change jobs or if you are a community agency interested in becoming an AARP Foundation WorkSearch site to expand your services, contact Maria Ramirez-Trillo, Project Director, at (602) 841-0403, or by e-mail at scphoenixaz@aol.com.
