Blog Post: Arizona BattleBots IQ Once Again Emphasizes Manufacturing with State Competition
posted Monday, February 4, 2008 9:05 AM
In conjuction with with the We Love Manufacturing: A Celebration of Arizona Precision Manufacturing, Arizona Battlebots BBIQ will be presenting Showdown in the Sun, the 3rd Annual BOTSIQ State Championship Robot Challenge on February 15, 2008, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm at Gateway Community College.
Arizona BattleBots IQ (BBIQ) is an educational program created by the producers of the wildly successful BattleBots television series (in which homemade, remote controlled robots face-off in competition). As the television show grew in popularity, so did the number of student fans who wanted to build competitive robots of their own. It soon became evident that this activity, the sport of robots in competition, had the unique potential to impact middle school, high school and college students in a powerful and positive way: Through the process of robot building, student's imaginations are captured as they design, build and compete with their own robotic creations; and through this hands-on effort students gain practical knowledge of math, science, engineering and manufacturing. Recently, a priliminary competition was held at Mesa High School on January 12, 2008. Top finishers from the Shakedown competition were in first place, "Boil This" from Williams High school, 2nd place, "Okse Deuce" from Mountain View High School, and in third, "Deviant Rotor", form Desert Vista High School. Congratulations to the winners and we will see you at the state championships on February 15th! Arizona Battlebots IQ is a great opportunity to develop a workforce aimed at Arizona manufacturing jobs and particularly the Arizona precision machining jobs. The Showdown in the Sun is open to the public so come on out to Gateway Community College, 108 N 40th Street, Phoenix.
The We Love Manufacturing event, presented by the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerece and the Arizona Manufacturing Network is a breakfast program highlighting the manufacturing sector’s economic impact in Arizona and the latest industry trends. The expo is an opportunity for guests to network with manufacturers of all sizes and explore the newest products and services coming out of Arizona . Tags
