Blog Post: Not The Best Canidate For The Job
posted Tuesday, December 18, 2007 8:58 PM
Dear Employer,
This holiday season I want to ask you to take a chance on hiring someone who is not the best candidate for the job. Two years ago a man came to me who was in prison for 32 years of his life. All of his adult life was spent behind bars. He was not the best candidate for the job. He had never been to a trade school or even graduated High School, he was not the best candidate for the job. In prison he did mostly manual labor jobs and some fixing as he put it, he was not the best candidate for the job. He had never had a job on the outside for more than a few months and he was not the best candidate for the job. But an employer took the chance and looked beyond the best candidate for the job. What he got was a grateful employee who two years later and two promotions later is still on the job. He has missed one day of work in two years, he has inspired others to do their best to improve their lives. He did turn out to be: The best candidate for the job! Merry Christmas Bill, only you know who you are and that is fine. We that know you are glad that you were not the best candidate for the job because you turned out to be what the job was all about. Merry Christmas Joe, for looking beyond what was obvious and hiring someone who was not the best candidate for the job. This Christmas, Mr. Employer, please look beyond your first impression and give someone an opportunity to be: The Best Candidate For The Job. Merry Christmas to all,
