Blog Post: An Open Letter to My Friends
posted Monday, October 15, 2007 12:45 PM
Hi Everyone,
Last Friday, my work duties took me to the Hilton El Conquistador, a spectacular resort tucked into the mountains that ring Tucson. Our initial goal was to interview their Human Resources director to share with you the unique benefits of working for the Hilton organization. As it turns out, we made a scheduling error and the interview never happened. So we chose to shoot some video blogs instead. We had some time and a camera, so why not? We a picked a little spot high up on a hill and when I turned around, I couldn't believe my eyes. I could see the whole city, a great ocean of khaki and brown. The view was breathtaking...saguaros grizzled and wise, jagged sepia toned hills, fabulous adobe masterpieces that seem to spring up organically right out of the sand, and the imperial El Conquistador. I was moved, but the scene was oddly new to my eyes. So what? Well, in my haste I'd chosen to neglect the beauty that was right under my nose. All day long, I'd been nursing a lousy cold, endlessly checking my Blackberry, preoccupied with urgent, yet unimportant things. So here's my unsolicited advice. Slow down and take a look around. Leave your computer for five minutes. Take a walk and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you. You may be surprised by what you've overlooked. Have a Great Day, Doug
