Blog Post: Is it ethical to...?
posted Friday, January 23, 2009 3:08 PM
At a presentation I gave recently, someone came up to me and asked if it was ethical to be so joyful about all the unethical activity being reported in the news these days. The Governor of Illinois had just been arrested for trying to sell the vacant Senate seat, the mortgage industry challenges were growing, banking industry failures were just starting to come out... you get the picture.
Wow! What a Question! I hadn't really thought I was so joyful, to tell the truth! On the one hand, I responded, there is a great comfort in knowing there is a market fo rmy ethics products and services. All I have to do is turn on the news for a few minutes to get validation of the need for a converstaion about ethics. However, I am deeply saddened by all the suffering of people who have been hurt bu unethical behavior and bad decision-making. This seemed to satisfy the person who asked me the question, and the people who gathered to hear my response. But the true question is why do we allow unethical behavior? How do you feel about this? What is your greatest ethical concern? I'm interested to hear your response! Thanks for reading!
