Blog Post: Martha Finney "Sustains the Flame" at Arizona State SHRM

It's day two at the 14th Annual Arizona State SHRM Conference and I took a break from the energy-crazy Jobing.com booth long enough to enjoy an incredible Keynote presentation from acclaimed author Martha Finney. This presentation re-ignited the fire that each one of us was fueled by when we first started in our careers. It also gave a very real look into the fact that many people are not feeding the fire; they are in jobs that don’t give them meaning. A reoccurring theme that I have noticed over the course of this conference is that you can have passion for what you do. You can love your work. And not only can you do all of this within the HR field, you are in a position to help others achieve it too. Sustain the Flame! Keep Alive the Passion of Your HR Career! began with Martha sharing her personal journey to finding an HR career that she truly has passion for. According to Martha it's not only possible to love your work in HR- it's essential. She proved this by sharing sections of recorded interviews she conducted with a variety of HR professionals. These interviews gave multiple perspectives of what HR really means and how the industry is truly changing lives and organizations. After opening the floor to the SHRM attendees it was clear that passion for HR is thriving at here at the conference. It was very empowering to be surrounded by those who love their jobs as much as Martha and I do. The audience was able to relate to, and share real examples of, how HR impacts not only the professionals in the field, but the professionals the field was created to help.
