Blog Post: Networking for a job
posted Sunday, August 17, 2008 2:51 PM
We can all agree that “times are tough” right now in every aspect of the economic world. Finding a job may be harder now than it has been in a VERY long time.
Sooo… it is crucial that you use every method available. This means that when there is a career fair, BE THERE… and utilize all the tools that are offered along with it. Don’t stop there however. There are several other great ways to increase your odds of finding a great job that is a good fit for you. For instance, do you attend any networking events? No? Well, you should!! Have you ever helped someone else get a job by referring them to a potential employer? Or has anyone ever given you a lead on who to talk to or where to apply? Jobs are not always posted or get filled before they ever have a chance to be posted to the public. The value of finding a job through networking is huge because the referral comes from someone that knows you and can already start to gage whether the job would fit your personality or skill set. The other side is that a potential employer may be more open to you if you have been referred by a trusted source. There are a multitude of professional and business networking events in the Phoenix area. Here are two websites that will help you find great networking events near you: http://www.networkingphoenix.com/node/16 Remember to bring business cards (yes… you should have personal business cards)!! Stay tuned for the next blog on “other ways to find a job”… Best of luck, Kasten Spethmann Community Comments
