Blog Post: How can you build your resume as an out of work construction professional?

posted Friday, August 1, 2008 2:44 PM

So you've been working in Phoenix for the past 5 or 10 years as a construction professional.  The market has finally taken a deep breath and the work is slowing down... in some cases waaaaay down.

Unfortunately this slow down has left hundreds of talented guys and gals looking for a place to land.  Well, rather than sitting on the couch watching ESPN News for the third hour straight, why not do something that will help you build your resume?  It will also support you in being a more attractive candidate for the next great opportunity.  VOLUNTEER!

Listen, you've got skills and abilities that so many community organizations are desperately in need of.  While you have some spare time, make a difference in your community.  Spend some time hanging drywall, painting or re-hanging doors for your local women's shelter.  Visit a homeless shelter in your neighborhood.  See if you can fix that leaky pipe under their kitchen sink that could've easily been taken care of if only they had someone who knew what they were doing to help.

I can assure you that the one thing that all of the top-notch construction candidates we serve at CrossOver Recruiting have in common is they are committed to the community they live in.  They prove that commitment by giving back and volunterring their time to make their community better.  AND THOSE ARE THE TYPE OF CANDIDATES THE TOP CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES IN TOWN ARE LOOKING FOR!

So get out there!  You can do it!  Imagine the smiles on the faces of those who will be grateful for your help and service.
