Posted Date: 10/5/2009 Shift: Day Category: Pharmacists - Positions Department: 10401 West Thunderbird Blvd Facility: Banner Boswell Medical Center Position Type: Full-Time-FA Shift Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm Hours Per Week: 40 Overview: This position is responsible for leading and overseeing the operational activities of Pharmacy Services. Ensures the functions of the department are consistent with the policies and procedures. Assists in planning, directing, monitoring and evaluating the provision of distributive pharmacy services. May supervise those activities that provide for the purchasing, receiving, storage, delivery, and distribution of medications and related supplies. Assures adequate departmental staffing according to workload while maintaining expected productivity levels. Supports implementation of clinical services and helps to maintain information systems within the pharmacy. Develops standards of work performance, orientation and training programs. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients being served. Must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements and provide pharmaceutical care based on those needs. Adheres to local, state, and federal laws regarding the profession of pharmacy practice. Responsibilities: Organizes and coordinates daily activities of Pharmacy Services. Oversees the scheduling of pharmacy staff to assure adequate and consistent service. Determines and assesses workflow of the pharmacy department and makes adjustments as needed. Accurately and completely documents patient assessment data and clinical interventions.Manages people resources by recruiting, selecting, hiring, orienting, and training qualified candidates. Develops orientation and training programs and competencies for the pharmacy staff. Evaluates pharmacy staff performance in an accurate, consistent, objective and timely manner. Assists other Pharmacy supervisory staff as required/requested in these functions. Performs disciplinary actions as needed in a fair and consistent manner. Communicates personnel issues to other members of the Pharmacy management group.Provides leadership and work direction to the pharmacy staff. Promotes positive relations and actively contributes to a supportive work environment. Fosters a team environment within the department and across the system.Applies the principals of continuous quality improvement. Assists in the development of Quality Improvement Activities, Medication Utilization Evaluations, and Policies and Procedures. Coordinates activities of the department in implementing decisions of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other hospital committees in relation to formulary management and process improvements. Participates in meetings, in-service programs, committees and other functions as appropriate.Reviews and assures compliance with departmental and organizational policies and procedures, Federal and State laws, and accrediting bodies standards.Participates in the duties of the Clinical Staff Pharmacists when workload/staffing dictates. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Requires (or eligible for) pharmacy licensure in the state of practice and a degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy.Pharmacy licensureMust possess good organizational, problem solving and computer skills. Must possess good written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and other contacts. Must be able to use reference tools to evaluate patient care and answer questions posed by customers.Must have knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and Automated dispensing system.
